Bringing the flex industry together at GCUC London

During GCUC London, Michelle Andrew caught up with Emilie Lashmar, Director and Producer of GCUC UK, to discuss the work behind the event and how it keeps pace with a changing industry.

Asked for her highlight of the day, Emilie’s answer was simple.

“Seeing all of the wonderful people that make up our industry.”

That focus on people runs through her approach to GCUC, from planning the programme to bringing together those who can help explore where flexible workspace goes next.

Building a programme around the market

For Emilie, working in a sector that continually changes is part of the appeal.

Each event offers an opportunity to examine what is happening across coworking and flexible workspace, understand the nuances and bring those conversations into the room.

That means listening to the market and inviting people who can explore its challenges and opportunities together. It is an approach that helps the programme stay relevant as the industry evolves.

The care behind the event

Reflecting on her seventh GCUC, Emilie spoke about the time and attention involved in delivering an event.

Much of that work happens behind the scenes. For her, putting care into the planning is part of creating something worthwhile, and the enjoyment of bringing the community together comes through clearly.

NCG was pleased to support this year’s event and contribute to those conversations through our panel, Doom & Bloom — The Opportunity Hiding in the Chaos.

Looking ahead

Asked what might come next, Emilie expressed hope for another GCUC at TOGETHER, alongside the possibility of more regional events.

For now, her highlight captures what made the London gathering special — the people who came together to share their experiences, exchange ideas and consider the industry’s future.
